Free Programs

Computing is one of my favorite things to do. I find that it exercises my mind and I love learning new things. I’d love to discuss it with you anytime. Hardware, software, whatever, send me an email. Here you’ll find links to some of my favorite FREE software – in no particular order . . .

TheWord
Awesome Bible study software

xplorer2
A file management program – Windows Explorer replacement. I use it EVERY day. I registered the pro version for $30 but there is a very capable lite version available at the link.

Irfanview
One of my all-time favorites for image viewing and minor adjusting (resizing, brightness, contrast, etc).

AVG
AntiVirus protection – edit: now using avast! both are fine. I just got tired of the way AVG made you upgrade. EDIT: Now using Microsoft Essentials – included in Windows 7

FireFox
Use it instead of Internet Explorer

Chrome
Use it instead of Internet Explorer

Spybot
Spyware eliminator

Skype
Make free phone calls (computer to computer). Great quality. We’ve bought a Dallas phone number – ask and we’ll give you the number.

MW Snap
A screen capture application. I use this one a lot in my work. It takes a snapshot of any rectangular portion of what’s on your screen. You then save it as a jpg picture. Cool. – edit: now using Snippy

Foxit
A PDF file viewer that is small, loads fast, and doesn’t write anything to the registry.

Edit Pad Lite
Replaces your notepad (opens many file types). Download link is at bottom of page.

Atomic Clock Sync
Set your computer clock with up to the second accuracy (then go set all of your other clocks by it!)

Pie Size
Show the relative sizes of the files in any directory

Audacity
Excellent audio file editor

VideoLan
Opens almost any video file you might want to view

Filezilla
Really good FTP program

GTDTiddyWiki
A really amazing information organizer. Takes a little effort to figure out – but it is way cool!

Gmail
Great email application.

I love FREE software :-)
