Just finished another mystery last night. A Dime A Dozen by Mindy Starns Clark is the third book in the Million Dollar Mysteries series. I enjoyed it, give it 3.5 of 5 stars, but rate it down because it has a bit more romance in it than I like. Still a good read though, just like the first two in the series – Don’t Take Any Wooden Nickels
and A Penny For Your Thoughts”.
As I was adding The Christmas Train to my library I discovered that I have missed several recently read books. I’ll catch them all up soon but for tonite I list two.
A couple of books before The Christmas Train were the first and second in the long Kinsey Millhone series by Sue Grafton. The first was A Is For Alibi a murder mystery that whetted my appetite for more by the same author. The second in the series was B Is For Burglar
. It won the 1985 Private Eye Writers of America Shamus Award – and deservedly so. Good mystery – with a little bit of bad language (but not way overdone like so many today). I gave the both 3.5 of 5 stars.
I haven’t had a lot of time for reading lately but did manage to finish off one I started during the Christmas holidays. It was another by one of my favorite authors, David Baldacci. Although its title is The Christmas Train you shouldn’t wait till next Christmas to read it. I give it 4 of 5 stars. A great story with a good pace and ending. You’ll like it!
I finished another really good book last week and am just now getting around to posting it. It was Don’t Take Any Wooden Nickels by Mindy Starns Clark, the second book in the Million Dollar Mysteries series. I would rank this one a little higher even than the first one “A Penny For Your Thoughts”.
You really ought to borrow this one from the library (If you read the 1st one first it might enhance your enjoyment) it’s a fun read.
I just finished a fun book titled Transgression. It had mystery, sci-fi, archeology, and other elements that the author, Randall Ingermanson, pulled together well. You’d like it. Four Stars.
Fran says that our blog is beginning to look like nothing but a book review. I’ll try to do better . . . However . . . . I just finished one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read in a while. It’s called A Penny for Your Thoughts by Mindy Sterns Clark. I really enjoyed it and can wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone. Squeaky clean
Five Stars!
Well . . . I was on a roll of reading several excellent books in a row. I branched out into something highly rated in the secular arena and got stung by it. I can’t recommend the latest book that I didn’t read. About one-third of the way through I’m putting this one down for good. Night Sins by Tami Hoag is ruined by explicit sex scenes.
Steer clear of this one (and most likely it’s sequel – Guilty As Sin).
I should have known better
I just finished a really good book. I would highly recommend it for pleasure reading. It is titled The Trial and was written by Robert Whitlow. This is the 2nd book of his I’ve read. The first was The List. They were both excellent. The author does a really good job of character development. 4.5 stars
