I know we talk about food a lot, but we eat three times on most days and it is SOOOOOOO different here. Anyway, last night we went to one of our favorite dessert places to get cooled off and eat something. It’s called a “bing” (Chinese for ice). It consists of very finely shaved ice covered with fresh fruit which is then covered with a couple of tablespoonsful of evaporated milk and then to top it off they put on some sort of sweet syrupy stuff.
Sounds good huh? Well, the locals add a twist. Instead of fresh fruit, many put on beans! I’m talking red beans! Cooked in sugar! Sweet red beans. YUK!
Last night I saw something I had never noticed before. Some, for a special treat, top their ice with whole kernel corn. Get a mental picture of that. Ice – covered with whole kernel corn – covered with sweet milk and syrup. MMMMMMMMM
There is no accounting for taste.
