I know we talk about food a lot, but we eat three times on most days and it is SOOOOOOO different here. Anyway, last night we went to one of our favorite dessert places to get cooled off and eat something. It’s called a “bing” (Chinese for ice). It consists of very finely shaved ice covered with fresh fruit which is then covered with a couple of tablespoonsful of evaporated milk and then to top it off they put on some sort of sweet syrupy stuff.
Sounds good huh? Well, the locals add a twist. Instead of fresh fruit, many put on beans! I’m talking red beans! Cooked in sugar! Sweet red beans. YUK!
Last night I saw something I had never noticed before. Some, for a special treat, top their ice with whole kernel corn. Get a mental picture of that. Ice – covered with whole kernel corn – covered with sweet milk and syrup. MMMMMMMMM
There is no accounting for taste.

Fran tends to have too much fun. Here she is hamming it up at a dairy farm we visited while on the office outing. It was a big deal for many of the visitors there to see a pasture and real live cows. We ate an ice cream bar while there ( tasted more like frozen milk to us – they are not too big on sweets).
For those of us who watch what we eat, here’s the final word on nutrition and health from Oprah. It’s a relief to know the truth after all the conflicting medical studies.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
Man, am I glad we’re learning to speak Chinese!
Here is a great site for movie fans. I thought I had lost track of this info so I’ll link it here so I don’t lose it again!
It looks like the worst of it may be past. The eye has passed over the Island so now it is just a lot of rain.
We stayed inside all day Monday so we could hardly tell it was a typhoon in our apartment. This morning while walking to the subway station I did see a lot of leaves, limbs, & debris but the news says that it is mostly over.
Seems that the more I look into it the better I like it. There are sooooo many ways to tweek it! Like I just discovered how to add the two items, Currently Reading & Today’s Mood. Cool!
It seems like we’ve been on the road a lot lately. I guess because we have! First I went to Thailand, then Fran and I both went to Singapore, three or four days after returning from there we both went to Green Island. It was hectic but fun. We have put up an album of some of the random things we saw on green island. TheBellSite Gallery :: Green Island
