As I sit at my computer and eat lunch I am reminded of last night . . . .
Fran and I went out yesterday after my language class (in the pouring rain) so that I could get my ears lowered and have a hamburger for dinner.
I got my hair cut off shorter than ever and I think I like it. We then went to a TGIFridays in an area that caters to foreigners. They have one of the best hamburgers in Taipei. We were not disappointed ![]()
After that we went to a grocery store that has a little bit of “normal” western stuff looking for some “normal” salad dressing. If you like Thousand Island you can get it anywhere, but anything else requires a bit of searching. Anyway . . . .
After the grocery store we stopped at a McDonald’s for some ice cream. I know, I know, not exactly the best in town but at least it’s not $3 a scoop! While we were sitting at our table enjoying the ice cream and each other’s company I saw something I have never saw before.
There was a lady at a nearby table who had obviously settled in for the long haul. Dinner (fish sandwich, fries, and two bowls of soup), cell phone, notepad all laid out and ready for the evening. While she was on the phone chatting I watched her as she opened up 4 or 5 packets of pepper (ground black pepper) and pour them into a nice big pile. Then she started dipping her fries into the pepper (like I do with ketchup) and ate them. Yummy, huh?

Prayer Walk
My sweet, journeyman friend, Sarah, has a student ministry at a nearby University. Spiritually,”Shi Da Fen Bu” is one of the darkest of the Taipei Universities – it’s the science and math branch of one of the largest universities in our area. So far, there is only one Christian professor and one Christian student on campus. Sarah was discouraged at the lack of response to the English Bible study on Wednesday. She had distributed oodles of flyers, advertised around the campus – inviting students to come find out the true purpose in life. With our current BSF study being in Ephesians, we decided to do a prayer walk. Our bud Kimber was home praying for us (while tending to newborn son) and Paige and her friend Debby were in Ft. Worth praying for us. As we headed out on our prayer walk, we prayed on the armor of God (Eph 6:10-18). As we approached the campus, we began praying for the 2 local “lights” (prof & student) to not be discouraged, to keep shining for Jesus, and then prayed for God to break the strongholds of customs or lusts that hold the students in bondage
and in darkness from the truth about the ONE TRUE GOD. We prayer walked throughout the campus and into the building that Sarah is holding class. We are excited to see how God will use our “Jericho” walk in answer prayer. Pray God will be glorified as he draws students to seek truth. Fran
Just when you think things are getting back to “normal”, life throws you a curve ball and catches you off guard. This morning at 3am we were (once again) awakened to the the sound of the building rattling and squeaking under the influence of an earthquake. You know it is a pretty good one when it shakes you awake.
According to the weather bureau there were 5 distint quakes measuring between 4.2 & 5.9 from 3am to 7:19am.

Now here’s something I bet you didn’t know:
• 83 percent of Asian teas sold in the US are produced domestically.
